The Malabo International Hackathon is a premier annual event that brings together innovators, developers, and problem solvers from various countries to collaborate and create innovative solutions for critical challenges.

The hackathon is scheduled to be held from the 9th – 12th of December at the Sipopo Conference Center in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea.

This year, the hackathon will focus on two central themes:

  • Assistive Technology for Empowerment
  • Fintech for Financial Inclusion

The hackathon is open to individuals and teams interested in technology and innovation, including students, entrepreneurs, developers, and tech enthusiasts between the ages of 18-35 years of age.

This year we based our process of selection through national preselection’s and Hub associations for international participants.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own laptops and any hardware or software tools they plan to use during the hackathon. Additionally, personal identification, such as an ID or passport, is required for check-in.

Important note: Additionally, you are encouraged to bring your own Hygiene Kit as the Hackathon would be happening offsite the hotels and the organizing committee would not b providing this.

The complete hygiene tool Kit includes:

  • Toothbrush
  • Toothpaste
  • Deodorant or body spray of your choice
  • Wet wipes (If necessary)
  • Slippers for shower
  • Workout Outfits
  • And any other possessions that would ideally make your life comfortable on an
    offsite scenario from hotel premises.

You can participate as an individual or as part of a team. We encourage collaboration, and teams typically consist of 2-5 members.

No, participation in the 2023 Malabo International Hackathon is free of charge.

Details regarding prizes and awards will be announced closer to the event. There will be prizes for the most innovative and impactful solutions.

The prize list is under the Important information folder in the shared drive.

Participants will have access to workspace, high-speed internet, technical support, mentors, and a variety of hardware tools.

Yes, meals and refreshments will be provided throughout the hackathon to keep participants energized and focused.

The judging criteria will include factors such as innovation, impact, feasibility, user experience, and presentation quality. Please check on the important information section on the shared drive to have a peak on the evaluation criteria.

Winning teams will have the opportunity to showcase their projects to a wider audience, and there may be support for further development and implementation of the solutions. We are still negotiating with organizations to take on and adopt projects that they can sponsor for the long term.
